Ode to be Workshopped

Ode to My Blanket

My blanket has special powers once the sun goes down.
In the night my blanket originates an invisible force field.
My blanket becomes fighter of all unworldly creatures
and beasts from the deep pits of hell.
Protector of my well-being,
security of all ghouls and goblins from horror films alike,
like a doorman with a guest-list,
unwanted parties may not attend.
No amount of money can compromise my blanket from allowing demons of the night to come to this party.

Like a lioness protecting her cubs,
my blanket fights off all predators that stalk me waiting for the moment to strike.
My blanket is at a moment’s notice to defend my life.
Chucky, Freddy Kruger, Jason, Michael Meyers.
My blanket laughs in the faces of these villains and even dares them to try and come near my now frightened and cringed body.
With the uppermost confidence my blanket knows they haven't a chance.
“Remain in the screen!” My blanket yelps,
“This boy shall not be harmed while under me.”

It hugs me as I lay softly and comfortably,
putting me to sleep.
Keeping an eye out for the unwanted.
I make sure all my limbs stay inside my blankets borders.
Who knows?
A hanging limb off my bed might lead to my demise.
A creature of the night may grab it,
and take me beneath my bed where my blanket cannot save me
Yes, my blanket has special powers at night,
powers given by the Gods of the Heavens,
but when I awaken from my slumber;
my blanket, well it’s just that a blanket.
Nothing but wool and cotton. I fold her up and put her away.
“I’ll see you tonight, my life depends on it.”
